Upon arrival to the House of Bread, the group and teacher(s)/supervisor(s) will report to the dining room and begin to remove the chairs from the tables.
Following this, the group will be greeted and addressed by a member of the House of Bread management team and hear a short talk on the history of the House of Bread and its mission.
After this presentation, the group will meet the kitchen staff, don aprons, wash hands, put on gloves and prepare to begin their assigned tasks. Specific kitchen tasks will be assigned by the Director of Operations, or the Kitchen Director.
In addition to the kitchen tasks, other important tasks need to be completed in order to allow us to open the doors to our guests. We may ask some members of your group to assist us in any or all of these tasks. They are:
| • | Wipe down chairs and tables |
| • | Wrap silverware |
| • | Count trays for the day's service |
| • | Assist in retrieving needed product or supplies from the warehouse for the day's use |
| • | Washing, drying and folding laundry |
| • | Trash disposal |
| • | Sorting and storing of incoming donations |
At 11:30 AM, the doors will be opened and participants will serve portions on the cafeteria-style line, until closing at 1:00 PM. (We make every effort to ensure that everyone in the group gets a chance on the serving line. Larger groups may be split into shifts while on the line.)
After lunch, we would appreciate the entire group assisting in the clean-up efforts. Before leaving, we ask that the teacher/supervisor or group leader fill out a brief data sheet to ensure that we have the proper information for our records. When the form is completed, the group may leave with our heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation!
